From July 6–8, the University of Minho hosted the XIX IBERCOM – Ibero-American Communication Studies: Tensions, Global Reconfigurations, and Counter-Hegemonic Activisms, in Braga, Portugal.
As part of the congress program, the CONCILIARE team contributed to three moments.
The official launch of Living Memories & Media, edited by Rosa Cabecinhas, Luiza Lins, and Isabel Macedo, provided a moment to share reflections on the book and celebrate everyone who contributed.
The cultural activities within the event included a decolonial tour in Braga, led by Chisoka Simões, inviting participants from across the Ibero-American region to reflect on the collective memories embedded in the city’s streets.
Sara López, a Colombian researcher at the University of Málaga and visiting scholar at CECS, who took part in the tour, shared her perspective:
“I really enjoyed the tour. In Latin America we are usually very exposed to European history, but not so much from a decolonial perspective, so it was very interesting and an enriching experience.”
Rosa and Isabel also took part in a parallel session, presenting their work on mnemonic activisms, cinema, the decolonization of public space, and introducing CONCILIARE’s framework.
