Cinema, history, education and research

Over the last week, the third edition of the Audiovisual Heritage Meetings brought together researchers, teachers, filmmakers, and other artists in Maputo, Mozambique, to discuss audiovisual heritage, historical memory, and education.

This initiative was organised by the Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique (AAMCM), with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in partnership with CONCILIARE project and CECS-UMinho, among other entities. It focused on the decolonisation of cultural heritage, within the scope of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the African Portuguese-speaking countries.

Rosa Cabecinhas was invited to the panel “Cinema, history, education and research” at the French-Mozambican Cultural Center. It was an opportunity to debate the role of media in fostering historical awareness and intergroup dialogue. “There is a whole process of constructing narratives, whether through cinema or in a transmedia dynamic, to tell these stories, which are still untold, to account for the complexity of historical reality”, said Rosa.

She was also interviewed by Rádio Moçambique, the national broadcaster of Mozambique, and Rádio Cidade Maputo. During these interviews, she presented the objectives of the CONCILIARE project and its contributions to a more plural and inclusive public memory.
