Decolonial perspective in the streets of Belgium

In the heart of Avenue Louise, one of the busiest avenues in Brussels, the statue “Maroon slaves caught by dogs” leaves no one indifferent.

On Sunday 21 September 2025, the Afropean Project (AP) team spent a few hours around the controversial sculpture to gather the impressions of local residents and passers-by.

These voices and testimonials will be heard in the podcast currently in production, which will be available by the end of January 2026.

In the midst of their work, Marcel Florkin (AP), Aline Bosuma (AP) and Julien Bosuma W’Okungu Bakili (sound engineer) had the pleasure of being visited by other members of the CONCILIARE project, Laurent Licata (ULB) and Alexandre Chevalier (ICOM).
