The Paraíso festival brought to Braga, Portugal, a three-day program full of music, cinema, theatre and powerful debates. The event celebrated the 50 years of the independence of Angola, Cape Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé & Príncipe around different spaces of the city, and CONCILIARE was one of the partners that made all this happen.
Sheila Khan, as member of CONCILIARE’s WP2, participated in the roundtable about the decolonial processes, collective memory and intergroup relations. This moment was an opportunity to think about the challenges still faced today and the importance of preserving memory, while building a decolonial perspective.
“Independences dignify dreams, expectations and desires. They strengthen a collective, subjective and national self-esteem”, said Sheila.
The event results from a partnership between CONCILIARE and FazCultura, Municipality of Braga, with the support of Centésima Página, Bantumen, Gnration, Biblioteca Pública de Braga and CECS-UMinho. Curatorship by Nuno Abreu and Rosa Cabecinhas.
