Published: 31 December 2024 (Month 10)
Authors: Santavuori, A., Sakki, I., Di Carlo, G., Leone, G., Mastropietro, A., Prometti, C., Meuer, F., Forte T., Valentim, J. P.
The report examines how colonialism is narrated and represented in school textbooks across three European countries — Portugal, Italy and Finland. Drawing on a multimodal, data-driven perspective, it analyzes history, geography, religion, and mother tongue textbooks from 1950 onwards, focusing on the construction and transformation of colonial images and their emotive power.
This deliverable is the first output of Work Package 1: “Textbooks: changing CCH with confidence”, which investigates the role of school textbooks in shaping ideas and emotions among young students about the cultural heritage of colonialism and fostering confidence in the future of Europe.
