Our colleagues from the Sapienza team Ariela Desio, Elena Alexia Casagrande, Mariantonica Coppola took part in the annual conference of the Italian Association of Public History.
Held in Udine, Italy, from June 8–12, this year’s conference explored the theme “Shaking Up History: Public History and Reconstruction.”
They presented their work developed within the Work Package 2, focused on decolonization of public space, in the panel “Public Memory of Italian Colonialism: Media, Urban Space, and Symbolic Contestation”.
Their presentation examined the history of Via dell’Amba Aradam in Rome and the Mostra d’Oltremare exhibition complex and park in Naples. They discussed how these sites are perceived in public space today and explored the various ways they have been contested in recent years through activism, institutional advocacy, and artistic installations and interventions.
