We are happy to share that a new article on behalf of CONCILIARE is now out!
Karel Van Nieuwenhuyse, Denise Bentrovato, and Joaquim Pires Valentim have published the paper “The colonial past and/in history textbooks: A literature review” in the journal Current Opinion in Psychology (Volume 68).
The article presents a systematic literature review of research on the colonial past and/in history textbooks, examining 44 studies published since 2015. The findings show persistent resistance to postcolonial transformation in textbooks from former colonizing countries, although some display gradual changes. At the same time, innovative materials, committed teachers, and experimental pedagogies highlight the potential for more decolonial and inclusive approaches to teaching the colonial past.
